Pirates offense scores six times in scrimmage at Rushville

The Greensburg football team unofficially kicked off their season with their final tune-up in the IHSAA Week 0 scrimmage at Rushville on Friday night. The Pirates ran 47 offensive plays over three drives based on the IHSAA's scrimmage format. Junior Kaden Acton led the way for the Pirates, rushing for 132 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries. Junior Austin Cruz also scored twice on eight carries for 56 yards. Junior wide receiver Carson Miller hauled in a pair of 20-yard touchdown passes from sophomore quarterback Bryson Abplanalp. As a team, the Pirates ran the ball for 188 yards on 18 carries. Defensively, the Pirates first unit surrendered three touchdowns to Rushville. The Lions scored six total times in the varsity segment of the scrimmage. The Pirates held the Lions to 67 yards rushing on 15 carries and forced three turnovers. The Pirates officially open the 2023 season against Shelbyville on Friday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. at Shriver Field at Pirate Stadium.
