Turnovers, special teams miscues plague Pirate football in Connersville loss

The Greensburg football team turned the ball over four times, allowed a kickoff return for a touchdown, and had a punt blocked in a 41-14 loss at Connersville on Friday night. The Pirates began the game with a 50-yard kickoff return by Kaden Acton. Acton and Brayden Rankin would combine for five carries on the drive that ended in a 7-yard TD run by Rankin to give the Pirates a 7-0 lead. However, Conenrsville's Micah Buchanan returned the ensuing kickoff for an 83-yard touchdown to even the score. Connersville found the end zone just efore the half on a 25-yard run by Buchanan to take a 13-7 lead into the break. After the half, Pirates quarterback Bryson Abplanalp threw three interceptions and the Pirates had a punt blocked, leading to 28 Connersville points. Pirates running back Austin Cruz scored his first varsity touchdown on a 28-yard run midway through the quarter to finish the scoring. The final score was 41-14. Abplanalp finished the night 12-28 passing for 86 yards with 3 interceptions. Cruz was the Pirates' leading rusher with 106 yards on 17 carries. Owen Meadows pulled in eight of Abplanalp's 12 completions for 61 yards. The Pirates are now 0-3 (0-1 EIAC) and return to action Friday night at Shriver Field against Class 3A #3 Lawrenceburg.
