Cross country finishes second and fifth in Greensburg Invitiational

Greensburg High School hosted its 50th Annual Cross-Country Invitational on Thursday evening. The host Pirates were second in the team standings in the boys’ competition. Milan won the boys side of the meet. In the boys race, Greensburg’s TJ Gorman and Joe Hawkins set the pace from the start. Gorman was the individual champion in a time of 16:34.4 as the senior earned the first cross-country victory of his career. Hawkins finished second in 16:44.6. Joe's brother Jake Hawkins finished in 17:33.1 for 11th-place overall. Quinton Walker set a personal best for the fourth meet in a row, running an 18:22.1 for a 20th-place finish. Sophomore Zack Blodgett continued his steady improvement throughout the 2023 season. He placed 23rd in a season-best time of 18:36.0. Teammate Cameron Schwartz took 26th in 18:48.2. Malakai Nicolaides was next for Greensburg placing 33rd in 19:18.5. The boys’ team has a record of 71-31 after 8 meets. “It was great to see TJ win on Senior Night,” Coach Troy Davis said. “He, Jake, Cameron, and Tyler have been great to work with over the last four years.” On the girls side, Roncalli was the team champion, taking four of the top six spots in the race. The Royals’ Ava Shirley led the way winning in a time of 20:09.2. Greensburg finished fifth in the meet, led by Alaina Bedel with a 10th-place finish in 21:39.0. Junior Tor Gauck placed 20th in 22:36.4. Senior Ally Foster ran 23:08.8, her best time of 2023, for 25th place. Hannah Crowell took 32nd in 23:46.8 with teammate Tiffani Gramman 35th in 23:52.4. Brooke Welsh lowered her personal best again as she finished 47th in 25:17.4. “I was proud of the effort from all three of our senior ladies this evening. Ally, Hannah, and Gwyn all raced well in our only home meet of the season,” Coach Davis said." The girls cross country team is now 52-41 as they prepare for the EIAC Championships at Batesville on Saturday, Oct. 7th. The boys’ race begins at 9:30 am with the girls’ competition to follow.
