Girls basketball splits with Zionsville and Roncalli at Plainfield Winter Classic

The Greensburg girls basketball team took home third place in the four-team Plainfield Winter Classic Friday, falling to Class 4A Zionsville 59-49 in the opening round of the tournament before rallying to beat Class 4A Roncalli 60-55 Friday night. Playing without junior Mylie Wilkison, the Pirates were led by senior Leah West, who scored 24 points in the morning game against Zionsville and 23 points in the nightcap against Roncalli. West scored her 1,000th career point Friday. In the Zionsville loss, Aly Powers scored 11 points. Carlee Adams scored eight points. Claire Larrison scored six points to round out the scoring for the Pirates. Against Roncalli, West's 23 points were followed by Powers with 17, Larrison with nine, Mary Harmon with eight, and Adams with three. The Pirates (12-3, 4-0 EIAC) return to conference play Saturday, Jan. 6 when they host Franklin County. A JV/Varsity doubleheader tips at 6 p.m.
