Jackson crosses 50-foot shotput threshold in Bloomington North Indoor Invitational

Six Greensburg track and field athletes competed in Wednesday's Bloomington North Indoor Invitational HSR Qualifier at Indiana University. The Pirates faced several large schools in the meet, including schools from Bloomington, Columbus, and Indianapolis. All six Pirates who competed set new personal bests. For the boys, senior Elliott Weber threw 47-6 in the shotput in a sixth-place finish. Reed Hungerford threw 47-1.5, finishing seventh. In the track events, senior TJ Gorman finished eighth in the 3200m in a time of 10:04. Joe Hawkins finished 10th in the race in a time of 10:16. On the girls side, senior Emarie Jackson set a new personal best in the shotput, crossing the 50' threshold for the first time in her career with a throw of 50-3.5, which is sixth all-time in the state of Indiana. She finished second in the meet to defending state champion Hadley Lucas from Bloomington North, who threw a new state record 51-1. Lucas and Jackson are currently ranked as the top two throwers in the United States. Junior Livy Grimes finished fourth in the meet, throwing 35-5. The track team returns to action Saturday at the University of Indianapolis in the Red Devil Classic hosted by Pike High School at the University of Indianapolis.
