The Greensburg boys basketball team battled rival Lawrenceburg into triple overtime in Friday's Sectional 29 semifinal, falling by a score of 38-36. The Pirates never led in regulation. Greensburg trailed by three points at the end of the first, one point at halftime, and four points at the end of the third. Junior Jack McKinsey tied the game for the first time with 3:02 left on a floater in in the lane. The Pirates had a chance to break the tie at the buzzer in the fourth quarter. A three-point attempt by Drew Busick was no good. The first overtime was scoreless. Both teams traded baskets and a pair of free throws early in double overtime. With Lawrenceburg leading 33-32 with :43 to go, senior Drew Busick converted a three-pointer from the top of the key. Lawrenceburg answered with a layup on an inbounds play to tie the game at 35. With :05 left, Greensburg drew a foul, but missed two free throws, pushing the game to a third overtime tied at 35. In triple overtime, Lawrenceburg made an early basket and one of two free throws. Senior Justin Adkins hit one of two free throws for a 38-36 final score. In two games this season, the Pirates and Tigers played a combined five overtimes. This is the first time Lawrenceburg has beaten Greensburg since the 2008-09 season. The Pirates were led by Addison Barnes-Pettit with nine points. The Pirates shot 48% from the floor, but hit only seven of 16 free throws in the loss. Greensburg ends its 2023-24 season with a record of 18-8 and an EIAC championship.
