The Greensburg boys golf team split a pair of matches at Greensburg County Club this week, defeating Connersville 168-169 in wet conditions on Friday night. The Pirates fell to Shelbyville at GCC 163-170 Monday evening. On Friday, Colten Schroeder earned medalist honors with a 38. Hunter Springmeyer shot a 39. Brant Acra came home with a 43 after a birdie on No. 1. Kaden Acton shot 48 to round out the scoring. "It was a very difficult day for golf," coach Bryce Mize said. "With rain showers and wind gusts on an already drenched golf course, scoring was certainly difficult to come by. I thought Colten and Hunter did a great job of staying the course and leading us. They've both taken on that challenge this year, and I'm hoping that will show in the coming weeks." On Monday. Schroeder again earned medalist honors with a 37, including three birdies on his card. Springmeyer fired a 43. Acra shot 44. Acton rounded out the Pirates' scoring with a 46. "We finally had some nice golfing weather, and even though we didn't come away victorious, I thought we played a pretty decent round of golf," Mize said. "Shelbyville is a sectional favorite this season, so to hang in there with them is a nice little confidence boost moving forward. Today, it was short game, short game, short game. It absolutely killed us. I thought we struck the ball very well, but if we can't convert up and downs and we're turning birdie opportunities into bogeys and doubles, then we're going to have to really hone in on that part of our game. It will certainly be a focus of ours." The Pirates are off until Monday, April 22. They host South Dearborn at GCC at 5:30 p.m.
