Three earn conference championships at EIAC track meet

The Greensburg boys track team finished fourth and the Greensburg girls track team finished fifth in Thursday's Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference meet at South Dearborn. East Central won the event on both the boys and girls side. For the Pirates, Jake Hawkins, Emarie Jackson and Elliott Weber earned conference championships. Hawkins came first in the 1600m. Jackson earned first place in the shot put and discus. Weber was victorious in the shot put. Jake Hawkins won the 1600m in a time of 4:40.75. Jackson threw 48-5 in the shotput, winning the event by nearly 10 feet. She threw 153-4 in the discus, beating out teammate Livvy Grimes, who finished second. Other notable finishes for the Pirates include Carson Kilgore with a fourth-place finish in the 200m, Cameron Schwartz with a third-place in the 800m, Joe Hawkins finished second in the 1600m and the 3200m. The Pirates' 4x800m relay team of TJ Gorman, Zack Blodgett, Cameron Schwartz, and Jake Hawkins finished third. On the girls side, Genevieve Smith finished third in the 400m and fourth in the 200m. Carmin Ripperger finished fourth in the 1600m. Track sectional happens for both boys and girls next week. Girls sectional will be held on May 14 at East Central. The event starts at 5 p.m. Boys sectional will be held on May 16 at East Central at 5 p.m.
