Cross Country finishes third, seventh at Duke Meyer Classic

The Greensburg Cross-country teams raced in the 10th-annual Duke Meyer Classic Saturday morning at Hanover College. The Lady Pirates battled muddy conditions over the five-kilometer course, placing seventh out of 13 teams. The Pirates now have a record of 32-40 after seven races. The winner of the girls’ race was Southwestern Hanover’s Savannah Mussbaum in a time of 20:58. Charlestown was the team champion with 32 pts. Greensburg had two medalists over the weekend. Sophomore Alaina Bedel placed 6th in 22:22 while Tori Gauck crossed the finish line in 23:58 for 20th overall. Other Greensburg runners included Brooke Welsh 28th in 25:02, Alli Duncan 43rd in 26:58, Allison Kunze 64th in 28:03, and Avonlee Bohall 64th in 32:09. Jennings County’s Kraedyn Young led the boys’ race from start to finish winning in 16:35. Madison had four runners in the top 10 and won the team competition with 32 pts. Greensburg’s boys placed third out of 13 teams with 104 pts. Greensburg improved their 2024 record to 45-30. Sophomore Quinton Walker was the top finisher for the Pirates. He placed 11th in a time of 18:15. Dante Hess was next for Greensburg leading a pack of Pirate racers. Hess took 23rd in 19:01 with Chase Tekulve 27th in 19:11, Henry Corya 28th in 19:13, and Xavier Cassis 29th in 19:21. Other finishers for the Pirates were Conner Bedel in 33rd (19:42), Xavier Wade 41st (20:19), Brayden Emery 49th (21:02), Luke Dwenger 51st (21:10), Ethan Clifford 56th (21:29), and Dylan Herpel (24:41). Greensburg hosts their annual Cross-Country Invitational on Thursday evening. The girls’ race will begin at 5:30 pm.
