Cross country finishes third, fourth in Greensburg Invitational

Greensburg hosted 16 other schools in its 51st-annual Cross-Country Invitational Thursday evening. Batesville’s Kaylynn Bedel won girls’ race in 20:22.2 leading the Lady Bulldogs to victory with a perfect score of 15 pts. The Lady Pirates finished fourth out of 13 schools in the girls’ race. Alaina Bedel was the top runner for Greensburg placing sixth in 21:55.6. Senior Tori Gauck ran 22:32.2 and took 12th place. Brooke Welsh was 26th overall in a time of 24:47.7. Alli Duncan crossed the finish line in 27:53.4 for 43rd place while senior Allison Kunze placed 55th in 29:20.0. Batesville also had the winner of the boys’ race. Jake Chapman was the individual champion running 16:17.9 for 5 kilometers. Lawrence North placed six runners in the top 10 and was the winning team with only 30 pts. The host Pirates placed third with 99 pts. Junior Joe Hawkins returned to action and had his fastest time of the season. Hawkins placed second overall in 16:31.3 to lead Greensburg. Quinton Walker placed 18th in 18:19.0 while teammate Dante Hess was 20th in a season-best time of 18:22.9. Senior Chase Tekulve finished 29th in 18:41.2. Henry Corya placed 39th in 19:13.3. Other Greensburg varsity runners included Conner Bedel 46th in 19:51.2 and Malakai Nicolaides 47th in 19:53.5. Greensburg had six finishers in the reserve race. Xavier Cassis placed sixth in 20:09.8. Brayden Emery took eighth in 20:17.3. Xavier Wade finished 13th in 20:52.3 with teammates Ethan Clifford 14th in 20:57.7 and Luke Dwenger 15th in 21:07.8. Senior Dylan Herpel ran a personal best time of 23:45.3. Greensburg goes to Batesville next weekend for the EIAC Championships on Saturday, October 12.
