Boys third, girls fourth in EIAC cross country meet

Batesville High School hosted the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference Cross-Country Championships on Saturday morning. East Central’s Callie Bentley won the race in 18:26.2 and was named the conference MVP for the third- consecutive season. The Lady Trojans were the team champions with five finishers in the top ten. The Lady Pirates took fouth in the team standings. Greensburg finished the regular season with a record of 45-46. Alaina Bedel was the top runner for the Lady Pirates. The sophomore earned All-EIAC honors for the second time as she ran 21:20.6 for 14th place overall. The next two runners for Greensburg were seniors. Tori Gauck placed 20th with a time of 22:33.7 and teammate Brooke Welsh was 30th in 24:32.1. Alli Duncan finished 39th in 26:29.1 while Avonlee Bohall placed 46th in 34:09.4. Jake Chapman led the host Bulldogs to the team title in the boys’ race. Chapman won the race in 16:19.5. Greensburg placed third as a team and improved its record to 63-34 in 2024. The Pirates’ Joe Hawkins took second place in the race with a time of 16:35.2. That performance earned Hawkins all-conference recognition for the third year in a row. Joining Hawkins on the All-EIAC team was sophomore Quinton Walker. Walker ran 18:08.2 and placed 10th overall. Xavier Cassis finished 18th in 18:33.3, and teammate Chase Tekulve was next in 19th with a time of 18:50.2. Freshman Henry Corya used a strong finish to take 24th in the race with a time of 19:12.3. Malakai Nicolaides placed 25th in 19:13.3. Other finishers for Greensburg included Brayden Emery 37th in 20:14.2, Xavier Wade 40th in 20:30.9, Ethan Clifford 46th in 21:13.5, Conner Bedel 52nd in 21:52.3, Luke Dwenger 56th in 22:43.9, and Dylan Herpel 62nd in 24:45.0. Both teams race next weekend at the Brown County Sectional. The girls’ race starts at 10:30 a.m. in Nashville.
