Six advance to cross-country regional

Six Greensburg cross-country runners advanced out of Saturday's sectional at Brown County High School. Alaina Bedel, Tori Gauck, Xavier Cassis, Joe Hawkins, Chase Tekulve, and Quinton Walker will all run in this weekend's regional at Angel Mounds in Evansville. In the sectional girls race, Columbus North’s Carys Glyn Jones was the individual winner in the girls’ competition as the senior ran 18:05.6. The Bulldogs were also the team champions finishing with 22 pts. Other teams that qualified for the Evansville Regional included Edgewood, Seymour, Martinsville, and Jennings County. The Lady Pirates placed 9th out of 13 schools and finished the 2024 season with a record of 49-54. Alaina Bedel earned All-Sectional honors for the second time as she finished 15th place in 21:16.4. Tori Gauck was 23rd overall in 22:07.4, her best time of the season. Both of these Lady Pirate runners qualified to compete in the Evansville Regional next weekend. Senior Brooke Welsh finished 46th in a time of 24:06.7. Alli Duncan was 56th overall in 25:14.0. Allison Kunze took 71st in 28:03. Freshman Avonlee Bohall set a new personal best running 30:45.6 and was 74th overall. Neal White won the boys’ race in 15:24.5 helping the Columbus North boys defend their sectional title with only 30 pts. The Greensburg boys’ team placed 6th out of 14 schools. Junior Joe Hawkins established a new personal best time running 16:12.1 for 9th place overall. Hawkins' top ten finish earned All-Sectional honors for the third year in a row. Quinton Walker placed 34th in 17:55.6. Senior Chase Tekulve lowered his personal best to 18:11.5 for 39th. Xavier Cassis also ran his fastest race ever, taking 40th place in 18:12.1. All four of these Pirate runners qualified to race in the Evansville Regional meet next Saturday. Freshman Henry Corya had his best time of the year. Corya placed 48th in 18:32.2. Malakai Nicolaides placed 52nd in 18:45.2, his personal best performance. Senior Brayden Emery finished his high school running career with a season-best time of 20:09.8 for 65th place. The IHSAA Regional Meet will be at Angel Mounds on Saturday. The girls’ race will begin at 11:30 a.m. EST with the boys to follow at 12:15 p.m.
