Junior Joe Hawkins represented Greensburg Community High School at the IHSAA State Cross-Country Championships Saturday afternoon in Terre Haute. Hawkins ran a time of 16:33.44, placing 135th out of 248 runners. Fishers’ senior Sam Quagliaoroli was the individual state champion for the boys, running 14:46.81 for 5000m. Bloomington North won the team title with 105 points. The other schools in the top 5 included Noblesville, Brownsburg, Northridge, and Fishers. Hawkins has been All-EIAC and All-Sectional each of the last three seasons. He currently ranks 11th in school history with a personal best of 16:08.4. “Joe showed a lot of resiliency this season battling injury since August," coach Troy Davis said. "He gained some valuable racing experience today at the state meet. I can’t wait to see what Joe will do next year as a senior.”
