Girls tennis moves to 9-0 after win at East Central

The Greensburg girls tennis team used strong performances from both doubles pairings and a win from Abigail Hoeing at No. 2 singles to defeat Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference opponent East Central 3-2 on Thursday night. At No. 1 doubles, Ella Chapman and Janae Comer won 6-1, 6-0. In No. 2 doubles, Hailey Duerstock and Josie Nobbe won 6-0, 6-1. Hoeing lost the first game of the match, but then won 12 consecutive to take the match 6-1, 6-0. In No, 1 singles, Jenna Foster lost 6-4, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Mary Harmon lost the first set 6-4, won the second set 7-5, but then lost in the tiebreaker 10-4. "This was a solid win for us," head coach June Rigney said. "East Central won the conference last year and had four returning players. Our girls are playing well right now and having a lot of fun winning." The Pirates are back on the court Tuesday at Jennings County at 5 p.m.
