A round of 38 from Parker Phillips and a pair of 39s from Abe Tebbe and Hunter Springmeyer were not enough for the Greensburg golf team on Tuesday night. No. 18 ranked Columbus North defeated the Pirates 151-156 at Greensburg Country Club. A 40 from Colten Schroeder gave the Pirates one of their best team scores of the year, however a 36 and two 38s from Columbus North proved to be the difference. "I thought we played a pretty nice round tonight despite the loss," head coach Bryce Mize said. "We hung in with one of the top teams in the state and kind of proved to ourselves that we belong. Obviously, there are things here and there that you kick yourself over after the round, but I thought we did well managing the course from top to bottom." The golf team honored seniors Abe Tebbe and Bryce Stringer as part of Senior Night festivities before the round. "Abe has been an integral part of the team since his sophomore season," Mize said. "He has been a contributing score for us in almost every meet of his career. He will certainly be a tough score to replace next year." "Bryce has been fighting for a back end of the varsity lineup for the better part of three years as well. He has been a tremendous leader to our JV guys and has done a very nice job of filling in for the varsity lineup when called upon. We will miss their scoring, but more importantly, their leadership next season." The Pirates play their final regular season match of the year on Friday at Greensburg Country Club against Columbus East. Tee time is 4 p.m.
