Senior Preston Merritt earned a third-place finish in the 120-pound weight class in the 32-team Spartan Classic at Connersville. Senior Robert Eisert earned a seventh-place finish at 285 pounds. Merritt and Eisert advanced to podium day after a strong Thursday in the opening rounds of the tournament. Junior Landin Shepherd also advanced to podium day at 132 pounds, but did not place. The Pirate wrestling team is back in action Wednesday, Jan. 3 at home in a dual meet against Franklin County.
